Once a small, unknown town, El Calafate is now an important tourist destination for Argentina as well as South America. It is situated in the Argentinean part of the amazing, world famous Patagonia region and its importance lies with its location as a central hub to accessing many parts of the Los Glaciares National Park. Sitting on the southern bank of Lake Argentino the town is surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscapes on the planet, which is why the locals say that anyone who comes to El Calafate (also the name of a plant that produces jam) will always return for more.
