The Lakes District in Chile is a land of contrasts and striking beauty that offers an enviable combination of natural wonders that makes it a fascinating destination. This is Chile’s most visited area which is easy to see why. The region comprises several huge lakes, forests and snow-capped volcanoes which are protected in national parks and reserves.

Regional Hotspots:

• Pucon – is on the shores of Lago Villarrica and very popular for a relaxing place with plenty of opportunities for taking part in sporting activities.  This lakeside town sits at the centre of a mini world of adventure, where snowshoeing, volcani climbing, cycling and swimming are all at your feet.  This little town is friendly and welcoming and made up of just a couple of streets packed with restaurants, hotels and activity shops.
• Bariloche – is set on the south shore of the Nahuel Haupi Lake and is a very pretty alpine town only 24km from the quieter, beautiful resort of Llao Llao which serves as a convenient base from which to explore the national park and surroundings. It offers wonderful landscapes and activities throughout the year. There are also various tourist circuits in Bariloche that includes sites like Mount Tronador, Puerto Panuelo and Puerto Blest.
• Victoria Island – is a forested peak, set in the heart of the lake and home to hummingbirds, deer, woodpeckers and exotic flowers. This is an Island set in the Chonos Archipelago of Chile and has an area of 354 kilometres and possesses magnificent scenery. This is a great place to relax or explore the natural beauty of the area.
• Puerto Montt – located south of Lake Llanguihue and at the entrance to Reloncavi Sound, Chile’s Puerto Montt is the access hub to much of the exciting geography that attracts visitors across the world. By boat you can visit Chiloe Islands or the Tenglo Islets in the Ancud Gulf, pristine archipelagos of natural beauty. Puerto Montt was long ago settled by the Swiss, German and Austrian. It still remains its uniquely Teutonic heritage in its buildings and culture.
