Trujillo – a medieval walled city with Moorish castle, large central square and monument to Francisco Pizarro, who conquered Perú.Also known as the birthplace of many Conquistadors who played an important role in the history of the Americas.
Cáceres – Located near to Trujillo this beautiful Moorish walled city with over 30 watch-towers, was founded in 34 BC by the Romans and has an interesting old quarter. The Arabic fortress and the Christian feudal city highlight a mixed history and the city still maintains some fantastic Roman sections.
Mérida – located in Badajoz province, the city has some of the most outstanding Roman monuments: amphitheatre, a massive 6000 spectator theatre, a bridge, two aqueducts and a Museum of Roman Art. Once the cultural and political centre of Roman Hispania being established in 25 BC and lasting until 713 AD when it was conquered by the Muslims, and later virtually abandoned after around 500 year of decline.
