Regional Hot Spots:

• Bubión  -  The sleepy village of Bubión is set deep in the snow capped Sierra Nevada, a great spot for walking and hiking, located along a long distance footpath.  There is a folk museum and many craft shops, plus horse riding opportunities in many of the local villages.
• Capileira – meaning head or top in Spanish, and ideally named as it lies at the top of the valley.  The village has many rocky streets with overhanging passageways and is dotted with little springs and great view points.  A perfect location for walking in the gorge or a base for continuing further up into the mountains.
• Pampaneira – another fine example of traditional grey-white box shaped houses with clay roofs, this lovely little village holds all the charm and bustle with cafes, restaurants and craft shops.
• Órgiva – capital of this region and one of the largest towns in the Alpujarras, at 450m above sea level it has a slightly milder climate than some of the higher villages. The village is surrounded by olive groves and fields of lemons and oranges which makes for some beautiful local flavours.  The village also has a fine 16th church in Baroque style, some lovely places to stay and many bars and cafes.
• Trevélez – the highest village in Spain at 1,476m above sea level.  Providing clear mountain air which assists the village in drying its famous cured hams which can be sampled in one of the many local bars. Not to be outdone the village also offers many handicraft and gifts shops, great places to stay and cafes and bars.
