Greece’s largest and southern-most island, Crete, separates the Aegean and Libyan seas and divides Europe and Asia Minor. It is separated into four prefectures: Chania, Heraklion, Lassithi and Rethymno. The island has everything to offer from mountainous landscapes to a coast with many beautiful beaches and rocky coves. It also features beautiful towns, charming villages and harbours and ruins of one of the greatest civilizations ever, the Minoan Civilization.

Island Hotspots:

• Heraklion – This centrally located port town is the capital and largest city in Crete. It is ideal for exploring the centre of the island, the Palace of Knossos and the Archaeological Museum. The main airport and port of Crete is located in Heraklion.
• Chania - The district of Chania is the westernmost of the four prefectures of Crete Island. Its capital is the beautiful town of Chania where modern, Venetian, Turkish and traditional architecture are blend together in perfect harmony. Various archaeological sites, villages, churches, caves, gorges and wonderful beaches embellish Chania. There is a second airport in Crete located close to Chania. There is also a port in Chania, but is only used on selected services.
• Rethymnon – The prefecture of Rethymnon lies between the districts of Chania and Heraklion. It is full of magnificent beaches, interesting archaeological sites, Byzantine churches, lovely villages and lively resorts. Its capital, the town of Rethymnon, has kept many example of luxurious Venetian architecture.
• Samaria Gorge – The Samaria Gorge National Park is one of the major tourist attractions of the island. The gorge is 18 km long and is the second longest in Europe. The most famous part of the gorge is the section known as the Iron Gates, where the sides of the gorge close to about 4 metres and reach 500 metres in height.
• Lassithi – The region of Lassithi is the easternmost of the four prefectures of Crete Island. Its capital is the little coastal town of Aghios Nikolaos which has a picturesque port where little fishing boats are moored.
