Naxos is the largest and most fertile island of the Cyclades boasting the highest mountain of the group, Mount Zas (999 metres). The island is full of archaeological sites, endless beaches, wild deserted mountains, picturesque chapels, green valleys and typical Greek villages.

Island Hotspots:

• Chora (Naxos Town) – Also called Hora, Naxos Town is the capital and main harbour of Naxos Island. It has two sides, the Venetian Catholic-influenced Kastro and the Greek, Bourgos. This large town, located on the west coast of Naxos, is characterised by an impressive trademark, the Venetian castle.
• Apollonas – This fishing village is located on the northern side of Naxos, approximately 54 km from Naxos Town. One of the main attractions of the area, is the statue of Kouros which represents the God Dionysus.
• Apeiranthos – Located approximately 32 km from Naxos Town, Apeiranthos is a charming mountain village with a name meaning ‘plenty of flowers’. This large Venetian style village sits on a hilltop and features three museums and a number of cafes and tavernas.
• Filoti – This traditional Cycladic village is situated on a steep hill in the heart of the Tragea region near Mount Zas. It features whitewashed flat roofed houses, narrow flowered streets, little Byzantine churches, cafes and taverns.
• Agios Prokopios – Only 5 km from Naxos Town, this long golden sandy beach with turquoise water extends over 1.5 km. It is considered as being one of the most popular beaches in Naxos.
• Halki– Halki was once the capital of Naxos and its main administrative and trade centre. Neoclassical houses and buildings, Venetian Towers and Byzantine churches can be found in this village.
