Zakynthos, also known as Zante, is the southernmost island of the Ionian Islands and the third largest of the group. The islands appeal lies within its many golden sandy beaches with clear waters mountains covered with dense pine forests, charming traditional villages, historic Venetian castles and archaeological sites. The island is also home to a marine park which is dedicated to the protection of the endangered Caretta-Caretta sea-turtle.

Island Hotspots:

• Zakynthos Town – The capital and main harbour of Zakynthos is called Zakynthos Town. This town is the most popular and crowded place of Zakynthos and is located between its long waterfront extending from the Solomos Square (on its right) and the Church of Agios Dionysios, saint patron of the island (on its left). Here you will find many restaurants, tourist shops and ferry companies. The closest beach to this town is Argasi.
• Navagio beach or Shipwreck – The beach of Navagio or Shipwreck is the most famous of Zakynthos beaches. It is the trademark of the island boasting fine white sand, turquoise waters and the remains of a ship. This superb beach is located on the eastern side of the island and is only accessible by a taxi boat from the port of Porto Vromi.
• Maherado - The village of Maherado is located 10 km west of the capital and is the second largest village on the island. Its main attraction is the 14th century Church of Agia Mavra with its impressive Venetian bell tower and collection of fine frescoes.
• Laganas – Located 11 km from Zakynthos Town, this 9 km beach is the most popular of the island. As the birthplace of the endangered species of the sea turtle Caretta-Caretta it is protected by Greek and international legislation.  This beach is also part of the Greek National Marine Park.
• Keri – The traditional village of Keri is located 20 km south west from Zakynthos Town. Situated on the top of a verdant hill, this quiet and charming village is made of traditional stone houses and narrow streets. The central square of the village offers magnificent views over the Ionian Sea.
