Dating back more than 5000 years, Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world. With great religious significance for the Jewish, Christian and Muslim faiths, it is also one of the holiest locations on Earth. The old city of Jerusalem is a World Heritage listed region and contains many sites of religious importance, while the modern city has been built outside the old city walls.

• Temple Mount – A man-made elevated structure, supported largely by the Western Wall of the old city of Jerusalem, is a site that holds significance for both Judaism and Islam. Originally the site of the Temple of Jerusalem, it now houses, the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock.
• Dome of the Rock – Built on the original site of the Second Jewish Temple on the Temple Mount, the Dome of the Rock is the oldest extant Islamic building in the world.
• The Church of the Holy Sepulchre – Built in the 3rd century, this Christian church in the old city is believed to have been built on the site where Jesus was crucified and also the place where he was buried.

• Walk the Via Dolorosa. Follow the 14 Stations of the Cross and trace the last steps of Christ from where he was tried, where he was crucified, and the tomb in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre where he is believed to have been buried.
• For museums, The Israel Museum contains extensive collections of archaeological findings, and Israeli and European art. The major attraction is The Dead Sea scrolls, hundreds of antique documents which were discovered in the mid-twentieth century, some of which were from the Hebrew bible. The Rockefeller Museum is also interesting as the first archaeological museum in the Middle East.
• Housing the world’s largest library of Holocaust-related information, the state-of-the-art Yad Vashem museum is Israel's national memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. Exhibits focus on the personal stories of individuals and families killed in the Holocaust, and commemorates the deaths of the more than 6 million Jews killed by the Nazis.
