HOLIDAY TOURS IN CORBETT TIGER RESERVE, INDIA
>
Package
Famous British tiger hunter Jim Corbett founded this huge nature reserve in 1936. Corbett gained a reputation for shooting tigers that had become dangerous man-eaters, but eventually turned his gun-hand to photography and animal conservation instead.
Set around the Ramganga River in the Himalayan foothills, the reserve boasts grasslands, river habitats, and sal and bamboo forests that are home to a huge variety of animals. The best time to see a tiger is between April and June, but with only 100 of the endangered big cats spread over 1300 square kilometres, you have got to be extremely lucky.
The good news is that the park is positively bursting with other types of wildlife. Often-sighted animals included wild Asian elephants, otters, peacocks, langurs, gorals, rhesus monkeys, sloth bears and numerous varieties of deer. You might also spot leopards, crocodiles, wild boars, jackals and monitor lizards. Over 600 types of bird have been recorded in the park, including many rare and endangered species.
