Calabria is the region in Southern Italy, south of Naples. The region is in bordered by Basilicata and close to Sicily, Tyrrhenian Sea and also the Ionian Sea in the east. Regional Hot Spots: Catanzaro – Located at the centre of the narrowest part of Italy, Catanzaro is the regions capital. Its great position is setup high in the foothills of the Sila which is home to picturesque views. Views of both the Musofalo and Fiumarella valleys can be seen from the hill top town which is also full of incredible churches and further structures. Reggio Calabria – Reggio Calabria, or also recognized as Reggio is on the straight between the mainland and Sicily. The city itself is also known as the largest and oldest city in Calabria, and the second oldest city in Italy overall. Situated on the slopes of the Aspromonte mountain range the city boosts a panoramic seaside and botanical gardens. Cosenza – The city is prominent for its cultural institutions and famous for its ideal location as a good starting point for exploring La Sila. For those interested the city is the home to Italy’s last great stretches of European Forest which is still intact. Like many towns along the coast, Cosenza offers plenty of water sports and recreation activities such as swimming, sailing and also scuba diving.
