Merida depicts much of the splendour of colonial Mexico due to its use of white limestone and white paint. It is the capital city of the state of Yucatan and is known as “White city”. • Casa Montejo – is one of many samples of Spanish Colonial architecture. Construction started in 1549 as the residency of the Montejo family. Originally this place, with its magnificent Plateresque facade, extended along the whole of the south side of the square. The large and handsome rooms are laid out as a museum around two patios and furnished with antique furniture imported from Europe.
• Merida’s Cathedral – is a beautiful church with a mixture of styles. The construction of this cathedral lasted more than 150 years thus its eclectic style, but even so, the building is still an outstanding architectural work, surrounded by graceful elegant design, with glass-stained windows which illuminates the interior and is a must for architectural lovers.
• Paseo de Montejo Boulevard – is a historical boulevard fashioned after those found in Paris. You will find stately homes, shops and quaint restaurants here.

• Merida’s Cable Car – is a great tourist attraction and the longest and highest above sea level cable car in the world. This extraordinary achievement of engineering was constructed between 1957 and 1960 and runs for 90 minutes in total from start, at the Barinitas Station, and ends in Pico Espejo Station.
