•  Lisbon – The region’s starting point is also the country’s capital. Undiscovered laneways and cobblestoned streets gives a traditional European feel, and with a line up of gothic cathedrals, remarkable museums and heritage sites, Lisbon truly is a historical gem. The city features Europe’s largest aquarium Oceanário and the Museu Calouste Gulbenkian.
• Nazare – This picturesque town is one of the most famous fishing villages in Portugal. There’s belief that the Nazare earnt its name due to a statue of the Virgin Mary being brought to town from Nazareth. Although unlike its name this village doesn’t not feature any historical or architectural delights but rather the opportunity to enjoy the simplicity and beauty of a colourful traditional Portuguese village.
• Peniche – While famous for the traditional craft of lace making Peniche is also Portugal’s largest fishing port. A town dominated by the industry, you will come across a large number of restaurants offering seafood specialties to suit all tastes. Not only can you enjoy the local cuisine but also take advantage of visiting the baroque style Misericordia Church and the historical Fortress of Peniches as well as the enticing surf beaches located nearby.
• Obidos –One of the best known medieval villages, Obidos presents a picturesque town with the typical whitewashed houses lining the coastal hillsides. Obidos was once seen to be a traditional gift which Portuguese kings gave to their wives, now this remarkable village is home to the famous Obidos Castle and renaissance church Santa Maria.
