HOLIDAY TOURS IN BLACK SEA COAST, TURKEY

Turkey’s northern coast doesn’t figure on many tourist itineraries, but that, of course, is part of its charm. This is Turkey at its most beautiful, with dramatic mountains giving way to lush pastures, alpine forests, sleepy seaside towns and countless historical treasures.
Regional hotspots:
Trabzon
– A historic port town on the eastern Black Sea Coast, Trabzon boasts a number of impressive Byzantine churches including the lovely 13th-century Aya Sofya. Not far from Trabzon, the 1000-year-old Sumela Monastery clings spectacularly to a sheer cliff.
Amasra
– A pretty town built on a fortified promontory, Amasra is an ideal spot to unwind for a couple of days. The beaches are exceedingly pleasant, and the town has several interesting sights including a castle and a 9th-century Byzantine church (now a mosque).
Sinop
– This medieval city is set around a beautiful natural harbour. Don’t miss the impressive city walls, the pair of 13th-century mosques and the fine museum.
Ordu
– This busy town has a picturesque seaside boulevard and several interesting old churches. Take a trip up Boztepe Hill for magnificent views over the town and the Black Sea.
Giresun
– Renowned for its cherries and hazelnuts, Giresun has a well-preserved citadel, a great museum, and some of the liveliest bars on the Black Sea Coast.
Ayder
– Set on the slopes of the Kackar Mountains, this picturesque spa-town looks like something from the Swiss Alps. Take a dip in the natural hot springs or go for a hike through the region’s spectacular mountain pastures.
Samsun
– The largest city on the Black Sea Coast, Samsun doesn’t attract many tourists, although both the Ataturk Museum and Archaeological Museum are well worth a look.
