ITINERARY

Day 1 Istanbul

Arrive at Istanbul Airport and transfer to the hotel for the next two nights.

Day 2 Istanbul

Stroll through Sogukcesme Street with typical wooden houses which are now landmark buildings of Ottoman architecture. Visit Topkapi Palace, the largest and oldest of the remaining palaces that the Ottoman Sultans used to occupy. Admire the gardens, the treasury section as well as terraces overlooking the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn. Explore Saint Sophia, a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture dating back to the 11th century. After lunch, visit the Blue Mosque covered by more than 20.000 Iznik tiles and continue to the Roman Hippodrome where the chariot races used to take place. Finally, discover the handcrafts of Anatolia and shop in the labyrinth tunnels of the Grand Bazaar. BL

Day 3 Istanbul – Cappadocia

In the morning explore the historic Spice Market, smelling the aromas of the Orient. Enjoy a langourous boat trip along the European and Asian coasts of the Bosphorus, followed by a fish lunch under the Galata Bridge with stunning views over the Old City. In the afternoon visit the Mosque of Soliman the Magnificent, the masterpiece of architect Sinan dating back to 15th century. Discover the Church of Saint Savior in Chora and admire mosaics and frescoes displaying the most important scenes of Christianity. Transfer to airport for flight to Cappadocia. Transfer and overnight in Cappadocia. BL

Day 4 Cappadocia

This morning enjoy an optional hot air balloon flight over the Fairy Chimneys (extra cost), orchards and vineyards to admire the breathtaking moonlike landscape of Cappadocia. You have the enitre day to enjoy the natural beauty and the cultural depth of this unique region. Explore the frescoed interiors of Goreme’s cave churches, which date from the 8th century, take a walk in Avcilar, Pasabagi and the red valley of Dervent where you will admire the chimney like volcanic formations and a brief photo stop at Uchisar. Day 5 Cappadocia – Izmir – Kusadasi

Transfer to airport for your onward flight to Izmir. Upon arrival, continue to Kusadasi for the next three nights. B

Day 6 Kusadasi – Ephesus – Kusadasi

Explore the antique city of Ephesus by wandering along its 2,000 year-old marble streets, taking in famous sites such as the theatre and the Celsus Library. In the afternoon, visit the home of the Virgin Mary, and stop for a photo at the nearby Temple of Artemis, where only a column remains to indicate where one of the seven Wonders of the Ancient World once stood. Day 7 Kusadasi – Pamukkale – Kusadasi

Drive to Pamukkale and discover the immense tiers of white limestone cascading down a barren hillside, giving it the name ‘Cotton Castle’. After lunch visit Hierapolis, including the magnificently preserved Necropolis, the main street and gates, thermal baths, Devil’s Hole, and Masterpiece Theatre. Return to Kusadasi. BL

Day 8 Kusadasi – Troy – Canakkale

Proceed to Pergamon, the city where parchment was invented. Visit the Acropolis offering breathtaking views over the valley and discover the remains of the most impressive Hellenistic theater in Asia Minor and the remains of Zeus’s Altar. After lunch, visit the legendary city of Troy, the site of one of the most famous wars of ancient times, immortalised in Homer’s Iliad. Overnight in Canakkale. BL

Day 9 Canakkale – Gallipoli – Istanbul

Cross the Dardanelles Strait to the Gallipoli Peninsula. Visit the battlefields including; Brighton Beach, Beach Cemetery, ANZAC Cove, Ariburnu Cemetery, ANZAC Commemorative Site, Lone Pine Australian Memorial, Johnston’s Jolly, (Turkish and Allied trenches and tunnels), 57 Regiment Turkish Memorial, The Nek, Chunuk Bair and New Zealand Memorial. Return to Istanbul in the late evening. BL

Day 10 Istanbul

After breakfast, transfer to Istanbul Airport for your onward flight. B

  • Explore the Old and New City as well as the Asian side of Istanbul on a guided walking tour
  • Admire the extraordinary moonlike landscape of fairy chimneys and cone shaped rock formations of Cappadocia
  • Marvel at the white limestone cliffs and mineral pools of Pamukkale
