Lose yourself in Scottish heritage in one of the many castle hotel options available.

Dalhousie Castle

Enjoy the cosmopolitan Edinburgh without missing out on the castle experience at Dalhousie Castle. Only 12 kilometres from Edinburgh's city centre, Dalhousie Castle was the seat of the Earl's of Dalhousie for centuries, of the Clan Ramsay. It is the oldest castle in Scotland with continuous habitation and history spanning back 850 years. The castle has hosted royalty, been laid under siege, become a refuge for political activists, imprisoned earls and been a private boarding school during its long life.

When it became a hotel in the 1970s, the owner's mission was to maintain the long tradition of service and hospitality of the castle by restoring much of it to its original medieval glory coupled with the comforts of modern day life. The result is a luxurious four star retreat where you can enjoy a gourmet banquet experience in the Dungeon Restaurant; indulge in a treatment at the hydro spa; or stroll around the acres of wooded parkland down to the River Esk. Accommodation in Dalhousie Castle can be organised by us for your time exploring Edinburgh or incorporated into a wider itinerary, such as the self drive Live Like a Clan Chief.
